What is Qigong?

The ancient practice of Qigong translates to ‘life force practice’. It is a type of exercise that combines slow, considered movements with breathwork and mental engagement for the ultimate self-healing technique.

Often called 'Chinese yoga', Qigong encourages the free flow of Qi (energy). Qigong leaves you feeling fit, energised, sculpted and strong. It encourages restorative sleep, good digestion, better mood and vitality. Largely undiscovered in the West, Qigong is quite simply the ultimate self-healing technique.

Largely undiscovered in the West and often referred to as ‘Chinese yoga’. Qigong encourages the free flow of Qi (energy) throughout the body, preventing Qi ‘stagnation’ (blockages) and helping to prevent illness.

How does Qigong work?

Qigong works by boosting your oxygen intake and circulation while your body is in a relaxed state. This means you are building your capacity to store and generate your reserves of Qi, rather than just depleting them through exercise.

In Chinese medicine, the organs are responsible for the health of the body. Working at a muscular-skeletal level is not enough. Qigong nourishes and strengthens all the organs - but, unlike strenuous high-impact workouts, it doesn't strain them.

What are the benefits of Qigong?

Qigong has been shown in Western research studies to offer many benefits:

  • Strengthens joints and bones

  • Restores sleep

  • Improves digestion

  • Helps to balance the mood

  • Helps you to feel more energised

  • Reduces anxiety

  • Reduces cortisol, the stress hormone

  • Reduces systemic inflammation

  • Improves immune function

  • Reduces blood pressure

Who can do Qigong?

Qigong is suitable for everyone no matter their age, physical ability or experience level. However, it is especially ideal for those looking to take care of their overall physical and mental health and wellbeing.
